Website Design in Raleigh, NC

A better website, without the hassle.

Need a new website or a refresh of the one you already have? I can help.

I’m Doug Brown, a freelance web designer in Raleigh, NC. I work directly with business owners to design and build websites that look professional, work well on phones, and make it easy for customers to learn about your business and get in touch.

Since it’s just me, not a big agency, you’ll work with the same person from our first conversation through launch and beyond. I handle the design, website content, development, and setup so you don’t have to coordinate several different people.

We’ll talk about what you need, agree on the price before getting started, and build a website that makes sense for your business.

What’s included in your website?

Every business is different, but my goal is the same: make the process straightforward and give you a website you feel good about. Here’s what I can help with.

Website content that tells your story

Not sure what to write? No problem. Tell me about your business, your services, and the customers you want to reach. I can draft the website copy for you to review, or we can work with content you already have.

We’ll make sure your website explains what you do and gives visitors a clear next step.

A design you can review before we build

You won’t have to wait until the whole website is finished to see how it looks. We’ll start with the homepage, work through the design together, and make sure we’re on the same page before moving forward.

A website that works on phones

Many people will visit your website from their phone. Your site should be easy to read, navigate, and use on any screen size. That includes making it simple for someone to call you, find your services, or send an inquiry.

SEO basics built in

A good-looking website is important, but people also need to be able to find it. I set up the essentials, including page titles, meta descriptions, headings, and page structure, to give your website a solid foundation for search engines.

The goal is to help potential customers find you when they search for the services you offer—not just when they already know your business name. SEO takes ongoing work, so these basics are a starting point, not a guarantee of rankings.

Website tracking so you can see what’s working

Your website should do more than sit online. With tracking set up, you can get a better understanding of how people find your site, which pages they visit, and whether they take action.

That information can help you make smarter decisions about what to improve next.

WordPress training and ongoing support

I build websites in WordPress, making it easy to update text and images without having to write code. I’ll walk you through the basics so you can make changes yourself.

If you’d rather have me handle updates, that’s fine, too. I can continue helping with website maintenance, new pages, design updates, and other needs as your business grows.

Website design experience across a range of industries

Over the years, I’ve worked with businesses in healthcare, construction, professional services, and technical industries. Each has different customers and different goals, so I approach every website with those needs in mind.

Healthcare and dental websites

Selected projects: Triangle Sleep Center, Preston Dental Loft, Heart Imaging Technologies, Invisalign, and Healthgrades.

When someone is looking for a healthcare provider, they want answers quickly. They need to understand the services offered, learn about the providers, and know how to schedule an appointment.

I design healthcare and dental websites with those needs in mind, making important information easy to find and appointment options easy to use on a phone.

Construction and home services websites

Selected projects: Kitchen Recreations, Raleigh Custom Woodwork, Elston Hardwood Flooring, Aber Home Inspections, ProClean, and A-B Control Asbestos Abatement Specialists.

For contractors and home service businesses, photos of completed projects, clear service descriptions, and customer-friendly contact options can make a real difference.

Your website should help potential customers understand what you do, see examples of your work, and find out whether you serve their area. I make those details a priority.

Professional services websites

Selected projects: Financial services, law firms, leadership coaching, consulting, and Erin Gallimore.

When people are choosing a professional to work with, trust matters. Your website should explain what you do, introduce the people behind the business, and help visitors feel comfortable reaching out.

I’ll help you present your experience and services clearly, with a design that reflects your business and the people you want to reach.

Industrial and technical websites

Selected projects: A-B Control, Cree Lighting, NASA Ames, telecommunications, pharmaceutical, and wastewater management.

Technical businesses often have complex products, specialized services, or detailed information to share. The challenge is making that information easy for customers to understand and find.

I can help organize product details, technical resources, certifications, and service information so visitors can get the answers they need and connect with the right person.

Have a business in a different industry? That’s not a problem. We’ll start by talking about your customers, what they need to know, and what you want your website to accomplish.

Recent website design projects in North Carolina

I’ve worked on projects for healthcare providers, local businesses, construction companies, professional services, nonprofits, and more.

What clients say

I’m proud to have earned a 5.0 Google rating. Clients often mention the communication, responsiveness, creative collaboration, and personal attention they receive when working with me.

We have worked with Doug Brown Design since 2010 when he designed our first web site. We were so pleased with Doug's work that when we were ready to refresh our website years later, we naturally went to Doug. There was no need to evaluate anyone else. Doug is more than a business collaborator; he is a trusted partner. In his own words: "we listen and we respond." Yes, Doug does! His commitment to your project doesn't end when the deliverable is met. Doug will be there to support you after the project is completed. Recently, due to a change of web host, our web site files "disappeared." We reached out to Doug who responded to us in minutes. He has been working with our new host to restore our website to working order. That is only one example of the kind of service that Doug delivers. Without any reservations at all, we highly recommend Doug Brown for excellent and personalized service that extends well past the completion of your project.

Website design in Raleigh and beyond

I’m based in Raleigh, NC, and work with businesses throughout the Triangle, including Cary, Apex, Durham, Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, Garner, Holly Springs, Morrisville, and Knightdale.

I also work with clients throughout North Carolina and beyond. We can handle a project remotely, with the same direct communication and personal attention.

Does your current website need some attention?

Sometimes a website needs a complete redesign. Other times, a few well-chosen improvements can make a big difference.

Here are some common issues I can help you sort out.

Your website is hard to find on Google

If your website shows up when someone searches for your business name but not for the services you offer, it may need better page content, headings, and local SEO.

I can review how your site is organized and identify opportunities to make it more relevant to the searches your potential customers are making.

Your competitors are getting more attention online

Directories and listing sites can be useful, but you also want your own website to give people a reason to contact you directly.

Clear service pages, useful information, and a well-organized website can help you build a stronger online presence.

Your website looks outdated

Your business has probably changed over the years, and your website should reflect that. An updated design can help you present your services more clearly and give customers a better first impression.

You don’t know whether your website is working

If you’re not tracking website activity, it can be difficult to know which pages attract visitors or whether people are contacting you.

I can help set up tracking so you have better information to guide future improvements.

It’s difficult for customers to get in touch

Your phone number, contact form, and service information should be easy to find. Broken links, confusing navigation, and forms that ask for too much information can get in the way.

I can help identify these problems and make it easier for visitors to take the next step.

Your website is slow on phones

Most people will find your business on a phone, often on a patchy connection. If a page takes too long to appear, many of them leave before they see anything at all.

I can look at what is holding your pages back, usually oversized images or scripts that are not needed, and make the site quicker to load.

Not sure whether you need a few updates or a complete redesign? Tell me what’s bothering you about your current website. I’ll take a look and give you an honest recommendation.

How the website design process works

I want you to know what to expect before we get started. Here’s how we’ll work together.

01

Let’s talk about your project

We’ll discuss your business, your customers, what you need from your website, and what you’d like to improve. It’s a chance to ask questions and see if we’re a good fit, with no obligation.

02

You’ll know the price upfront

Once I understand the project, I’ll put together a proposal outlining the work and cost. You’ll have the price in writing before I start. If the project changes along the way, we’ll discuss any additional costs before moving forward.

03

We’ll work through the design together

I’ll start with the homepage so we can establish the overall look and feel. Once you’re happy with the direction, I’ll build out the remaining pages, using your content or helping write it where needed.

04

We’ll launch your website—and keep improving it

After everything is reviewed and approved, we’ll get your website ready to launch and make sure the essential tracking is in place.

My work doesn’t have to end when the site goes live. I can also help with ongoing updates, SEO improvements, additional pages, and other design needs as your business grows.

No charge, no obligation

Tell me what you are trying to fix

A new site, a rebuild, or just a second opinion on the one you have. Call, email, or send the form and I will come back to you.

Common questions about website design

How much does a website cost in Raleigh?

The cost depends on what you need. A straightforward business website is a different project from a site with online booking, e-commerce, or more complex features.

Once we talk through your goals and the scope of the project, I’ll provide a clear price in writing before any work begins. That way, you know what to expect.

A smaller website typically takes a few weeks, depending on the project and how quickly we can finalize the content, images, and feedback.

If you need something sooner, let me know. A focused, one-page website may be possible in about a week when the content and other details are ready.

It depends on how your current website is built and what you want to improve. If the structure is sound, updating the design and key pages may be all you need. If the site is outdated or difficult to maintain, starting fresh might make more sense.

I’ll explain the options and help you decide what’s worth investing in.

Not as much as you might think. It helps to have a general idea of your services, your customers, and what you want the website to accomplish.

Photos of your work, your team, or your location are useful, along with your logo and any existing website content. If something isn’t ready yet, we can work through it together.

No. If writing isn’t your thing, I can draft the content based on information you share with me. You can then review it and make sure it sounds right for your business.

If you already have copy you like, we can use that instead. Either way, content is part of the website project rather than an afterthought.

Yes. Your website will be built in WordPress, with an editor that lets you update text and images without coding. I’ll show you how to make common changes.

And if you’d rather have me take care of updates, I’m happy to discuss ongoing support.

Absolutely. Although I’m based in Raleigh, I work with clients throughout North Carolina and in other locations. We can manage the project through email, phone, and video calls.
